John C. Pellew painted at the Little River, New Hampshire. Watercolorist was born and grew up in England. His career included the Allied Artist gold medal for watercolor, 1951; gold medal for watercolor, Hudson Valley, 1954; Marine painting award, Connecticut Watercolor Society, 1958; the Adolph and Clare Orbig award and the Henry W. Ranger Purchase award, National Academy of New York, 1961; The Butler Award, The American Water Society, New York, 1964; the Syndicate Magazine gold medal, Allied Arts of America, 1967; and the silver award, The American Watercolor Society, 1970. During his career, Pellew worked as an instructor in New England, authored three books on painting, was a member of the National Academy of Design, The Salmagundi Club, Allied Artists of America and the America Watercolor Society.
